Visit the above link to read the damning report on the state of Tasmania's rare and endangered species.

The report, by Australia's Auditor-General, was released in March, 2009 and among may issues notes how only 2 of Tasmania's threatened species have full recovery plans in place.

Tasmania's Southern Forests are habitat-in-crisis for many of these species.

THIS MAP WAS COMPILED BY FOREST CAMPAIGNERS FROM DATA FROM THE LAND INFORMATION SYSYTEM TASMANIA WEBSITE. FORESTRY TASMANIA HAS REPEATEDLY CLAIMED THAT 90% OF THE CATCHMENT OF THE UPPER FLORENTINE IS UNAVAILABLE FOR HARVESTING. THE DATA FROM THIS MAP SHOWS THAT 53% OF THE TALL FORESTS IN THE CATCHEMENT ARE AVAILABLE FOR LOGGING AND 56% OF OLD GROWTH FORESTS IS AVAILABLE FOR LOGGING.

This map shows the areas of tall eucalypt forest in the Upper Florentine catchment. Red shaded areas are tall eucalypt forest available for logging, green areas are protected in informal and formal reserves.
The grey and white line shading that surrounds the catchment is the World Heritage Area.
