FOREST ACTIVISTS HAND IN PETITION TO AUSTRALIAN HIGH COMMISSION IN LONDON WITH 1000 NAMES ASKING FOR THE IMMEDIATE HALT TO LOGGING OLD GROWTH AND HIGH CONSERVATION VALUE FOREST
Concerned members of the British public and forest activists today handed in a petition containing 1000 signatures to the Australian High Commission in London. Activists draped banners across the front of the building situated on the Strand, a prominent central London location, reading END LOGGING NOW
and SAVE TASMANIAS ANCIENT FORESTS.

19.1.2009 FOREST DEFENDER LOCKS ONTO AN EXCAVATOR AS ACTIVISTS ANNOUNCE EVEN BIGGER FOREST RALLY THIS SATURDAY

Early this morning, a forest activist locked onto an excavator in the Upper Florentine Valley to protest against Forestry Tasmania's roading operations in the area. Four tree sitters continue their 8 day vigil high in the canopy of the old growth forests located in the valley.

18.1.2009 MASS WALK-IN AT THE UPPER FLORENTINE AS OVER 500 COMMUNITY MEMBERS ENTER FORESTRY TASMANIA'S EXCLUSION ZONE.

Over 500 people attended a 'Rally for Old Growth' in the Upper Florentine Valley today, to protest against Forestry Tasmania's highly contentious roading operations in the valley. Community members peacefully walked into Forestry Tasmania's exclusion zone and halted roading operations for the day.

The community held hands and encircled forestry machinery to raise critical community concerns with the Tasmanian Government's continued support for the logging and roading of old growth and high conservation value forests.

17.1.2009 Activists Hang Giant Florentine Banner from Parliament House

Activists have hung a giant 11 metre "Save the Upper
Florentine" banner while abseiling from the roof of Parliament House in Hobart.

As activists continue to prevent the destruction of ancient forest
on the ground in the Upper Florentine, others have brought the issue directly
to the Tasmanian Government" said Still Wild Still Threatened spokesperson
Ula Majewski.

16.1.2009 NEW TREE SIT ERECTED IN THE UPPER FLORENTINE AS FOREST DEFENDER LOCKS ON TO THE 'AXE WHACKER'.

Early this  morning,
a new tree sit - the 'Scales of Injustice' - was erected in the Upper
Florentine Valley and a forest defender locked onto a feller-buncher
machine, colloquially known as an 'axe whacker'. A blockading structure
has been set up across Forestry Tasmania's new road. This structure is
attached to both the 'Scales of Injustice' and the 'Lungs of the Land'
treesit, where an activist has been perched since Monday morning's raid
by police.

15/1/2009 FOREST ACTIVISTS REITERATE THEIR CALLS FOR GOVERNMENTS TO STAND UP AND TAKE STEPS TO RESOLVE THE FOREST DEBATE

Forest
activists have once again called on the Tasmanian and Australian Governments to
resolve the long running dispute over the fate of Tasmania's old growth and high conservation
value forests. The call comes as protests continue in the Upper Florentine
Valley, with 2 more
activists arrested today, bringing the total number of arrests over the last
four days to 27.

18 ARRESTED IN THE UPPER FLORENTINE VALLEY AS 4 ACTIVISTS
CONTINUE THEIR TREETOP VIGIL

18 community members were arrested during a mass community
walk-in in the Upper
Florentine Valley
today, including celebrated landscape photographer Geoffrey Lea. One activist
locked himself onto an excavator for over 2 hours and 24 community members
blockaded the logging road, but were removed by police without being arrested. Four
forest defenders are still perched high in the canopy of the threatened old
growth forests located in proposed logging coupe FO044A.

13/1/2009 TWO MORE ARRESTS STOPPING ROADING IN THE UPPER FLORENTINE

TWO MORE FOREST DEFENDERS
ARRESTED THIS AFTERNOON AS THE TASMANIAN COMMUNITY SPEAKS OUT AGAINST ROADING
IN THE
UPPER FLORENTINE VALLEY.

Two forest activists have been
arrested in the Upper Florentine Valley this afternoon. 'Adrian' had been locked
onto a tunnel at Camp Florentine to protest against Forestry Tasmania's proposed 4km roading
operations in the valley. He was arrested around 2:00 this afternoon.
Another activist was arrested while attempting to replace 'Adrian' in the tunnel.
